I am a board certified psychiatrist that specializes in working with children, adolescents and adults in the La Jolla/UTC area. I have experience working with a wide range of problems, some of which include issues related to ADHD, depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, and difficulties in relationships, work, or school. I understand that each patient is unique, requiring an individualized approach to assessment and treatment. I strive to work with each patient in exploring the root of their difficulties and help with finding more adaptive ways to alleviate their suffering.
In addition to extensive medical and psychiatric training, I have advanced training in psychoanalytic psychotherapy and psychoanalysis. This approach allows me to work with patients in a deep, insight-oriented manner to help them gain awareness of self-defeating patterns or behaviors and ultimately change them.
My emphasis is on providing individual therapy, in the form of talk therapy with adults and adolescents, and play therapy with children. When indicated, I will prescribe medications to treat particular symptoms, collaborating closely with the patient or family in this decision making process. Arash J.
